Atticus the Ocean is a Bournemouth based singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from the ocean, writing original songs that explore the unspoken facets of life with voice and acoustic guitar.
As a constant presence in Atticus’s life, the sea finds its way into his compositions as a metaphor for the ever-shifting tides of our relationship with the world. Inspired by artists such as Ben Howard, Fleet Foxes, and John Smith, Atticus uses fingerstyle techniques and alternate tunings to build the foundations of his sound.
Born in Cornwall, Atticus’s passion for the sea started at an early age before moving to Devon to study oceanography at the University of Plymouth, and finally settling on the South Coast in Bournemouth.
The ocean serves as a canvas upon which Atticus paints introspective narratives, adding a depth and dimension to his work that transcends the ordinary. Atticus’s music is a journey into the depths of human emotion, with lyrical resonance reminiscent of Radiohead and storytelling finesse akin to Johnny Flynn; his songs navigate the intricate map of human emotion, uncovering hidden truths and raw sentiments.
“You are not just a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.” – Rumi
