About

Atticus the Ocean is a Bournemouth based singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from the ocean, writing original songs that explore the unspoken facets of life with voice and acoustic guitar.

As a constant presence in Atticus’ life, the sea finds its way into his compositions as a metaphor for the ever-shifting tides of our relationship with the world.

Born in Cornwall, Atticus’ passion for the sea started at an early age before moving to Devon to study oceanography at the University of Plymouth, and finally settling on the South Coast in Bournemouth.

“There’s a reason we are drawn to gazing at the ocean; it is said that it provides a closer reflection of who we are, more than any mirror.”

Influences

Inspired by artists such as Ben Howard, Fleet Foxes, and John Smith, Atticus uses fingerstyle techniques and alternate tunings to build the foundations of his sound. The ocean serves as a canvas upon which Atticus paints his introspective narratives, adding an extra depth and dimension to his work. Atticus’s music is a journey into the depths of human emotion, with lyrical resonance reminiscent of Radiohead and storytelling finesse akin to Johnny Flynn; his songs navigate an intricate map, uncovering hidden truths and raw sentiment.
