Atticus the Ocean is a singer-songwriter from Bournemouth whose sound embraces fingerstyle guitar and open tunings. Inspired by folk influences and a deep connection to the natural world, the sea often finds its way into his compositions as a hidden metaphor.

As a constant presence in Atticus’ life, the sea finds its way into his compositions as a metaphor for the ever-shifting tides of our relationship with the world.

Born in Cornwall, Atticus’ passion for the sea started at an early age before moving to Devon to study oceanography at the University of Plymouth, and currently settling on the South Coast in Bournemouth.
Influences
Inspired by artists such as Ben Howard, Fleet Foxes, and Nick Drake, Atticus uses fingerstyle techniques and alternate tunings to build the foundations of his sound. The ocean serves as a canvas upon which Atticus paints his introspective narratives, adding an extra depth and dimension to his work. Atticus’s music is a journey into the depths of human emotion, with lyrical resonance reminiscent of Newton Faulkner, and storytelling finesse akin to Johnny Flynn; his songs navigate an intricate map, uncovering hidden truths and raw sentiment.
Atticus has a deep-rooted commitment to the preservation of our planet’s precious marine ecosystems. As a dedicated advocate for marine conservation, Atticus is proud to also work for the Marine Conservation Society, where he actively contributes to the vital work of safeguarding our oceans. His lyrics are enriched by his experiences and reinforce his dedication to the very waters that inspire his songs.
“There’s a reason we are drawn to gazing at the ocean; it is said that it provides a closer reflection of who we are, more than any mirror.”
